Dr. Diana Schonhoff, PT, DPT
Meet the Therapist
Dr. Diana Schonhoff, PT, DPT has practiced physical therapy since September 1979, after graduating from the University of Texas, Medical Branch School of Physical Therapy, in Galveston. She completed the doctor of physical therapy degree from Boston University in September 2007. She has held an associate’s degree in occupational therapy since 1975, which she practiced with as a certified occupational therapy assistant at Jennie Sealy Hospital in Galveston and Goodwill Rehab Services in San Antonio until 1978. She also is a certified strength training specialist with the American Weightlifting Association.
Dr. Diana Schonhoff, PT, DPT , initially worked at Lutheran General Hospital as the director of physical therapy, then joined Northeast Baptist Hospital as their director of physical therapy in 1980. She remained with the Baptist Healthcare System for 15 years, replacing the retiring department head at Baptist Medical Center in 1989.
Dr. Diana Schonhoff, PT, DPT , became the director of physical rehabilitation, adding occupational and speech therapy to the physical therapy services provided. She developed the rehab department at North Central Baptist Hospital during its construction, the Skilled Nursing Facility Rehab Unit at BMC, and the Northeast Baptist Warm Springs Outpatient Clinic on Village Drive. Dr. Diana Schonhoff, PT, DPT , rejuvenated the downtown Baptist Medical Center’s rehabilitation department into a progressive, high-quality professional unit, which attracted professionally licensed therapists for education and practice.
During her Baptist Healthcare System experience, Dr. Diana Schonhoff, PT, DPT , provided physical therapy for orthopedic, neurological, musculoskeletal, cardiac, diabetic, oncology, pre- and post-surgical, post-trauma and burn patients of all ages and stages. She performed services for home health care and a local rheumatologist when not at the hospital. She served as an adjunct professor for the UTSA School of Physical Therapy and job placement chair for the Texas Physical Therapy Association’s central district.
Dr. Diana Schonhoff, PT, DPT, left Baptist in 1996, working in home health for various agencies in San Antonio and New Braunfels. She was director of rehabilitation services for the state of Texas for Medshares home health agency. In December 1997, she began the plans for Garden Ridge Physical Therapy & Wellness P.C., which officially opened in June 1998. Her practice celebrated its 10-year anniversary in 2008. She has been involved in various community service events and served on the Garden Ridge Women’s Club board of directors.
Dr. Diana Schonhoff, PT, DPT, is the proud mother of three sons, Rob, Derek and Ryan. Rob is a college student and Derek and Ryan are in high school. She spends her free time at home with her two horses.
